 3) URBAN RESILIENCE by Khairunnisa Hanisah Mohd Daud
U rban resilience is thought to be a system or a community where it has measured and can adapt to shock and stresses. For a community, to be resilient has become one of the essential aspects of this current economy and to give more value to life. To be such, how a community or a leader can control over unexpected stress can lead to a more significant benefit and sustain what they have and what will they achieve in future. Ideally, when an individual is said to be resilient, they are supposed to have a positive and active mind. Despite every challenge they face, they are thought to think at the bright side. By having this, the individual will have a will power to stay on living
and make a better future.
By growing resilience individuals it can turn into a whole resilience community. Then a community will turn into a whole resilience country and then an urban resilience will form. In this current situation, many unexpected scenarios and disasters ought to happen results from the development of
technologies that believe in
helping humanity. Because of these technologies, it affected the whole pace and changed the old way of life. Somehow it also affected nature. Humans are believed to be ready and have an adaptation toward changes. How we think and how we work will also change. One with less adaptation skill may have some difficulties to keep on moving forward.
As an example, if we talk about climate changes and the greenhouse effect, as human the whole community living under this same sky and we need to have a plan on how to handle this issue. As we know, the after effect of climate change and green house effect will definitely affect the next generation. We are supposed to make a living for a better future to help the next generation live extra easier. But without us knowing, the fast pace moving technologies we build for a better future effect the only earth we live in. Because of this unexpected situation, we need to have a plan on how to solve it without making it a bigger problem for the future. It is good that we did make a move
on cutting the releasing of carbon dioxide in everyday life as carbon dioxide is one of the reasons for the green house effect. But the movement is slow, and we still need a lot more awareness and plan for making it practical for a better future.
Next, for a country to stay alive and out of poverty, they need a strong economy. The economy for a developing country like Malaysia always depends on the trend of the bigger country that holds economic power. But, approaching 2020, we can manage to plan and solve in the round table. Although some significant issues and problems cannot be solved immediately, having resilience community can lessen the impact on the society.
For a better future, for our next generation, urban resilience is one of the ways to build a happy nation and to move forward. It always a give and take when it comes to a better future, so we need to plan well and hope we get better and more opportunities to grow in future.
