WSC GT races, the Bugatti, shod with Goodyear tyres and driven by Gildo Pastor and Patrick Tambay, finished 19th overall, and in fifth place in the GTS-1 category.
The second race was on 16 July 1995 at Sears Point in the American WSC GT series. Sporting the number 01, the car was raced throughout the 1.75-hour-long event by Pastor, and despite a punctured tyre, finished 16th overall, placing sixth in the GTS-1 category.
The next event for the Bugatti EB110 SC was in Japan for the Suzuka 1000 km race, which was part of the BPR Global GT Endurance Series. It has been rumoured that MRT’s costs were underwritten to a considerable extent by the organisers, although Patrick Peter just smiles and says that “it was important to have Bugatti back on the racing circuits of the world.” Driven by Pastor and Eric Hélary, the car started from 12th place after qualifying at 2’09.560 in the GT group, Division Super GT, dropping out after 104 laps due to gearbox issues. The starting number was once again 01.
With the bankruptcy of Bugatti Automobili, the EB110 SC was “trapped” at the factory premises. Once it had been “freed”, Pastor was back campaigning for the 1996 Daytona 24 Hours race on 3-4 February. The EB110 SC, with the starting number 05, finished 59th overall, and 23rd in its class, not completing the race once again due to gearbox problems. Sharing the driving duties with Pastor were Derek John Hill and Olivier Grouillard.
The car was registered but did not race in the BPR Global GT Series 4 Hours of Monza race, slated for 24 March 1996. Next, on 28 April, the EB110 SC, now wearing the race number 62, attended the pre-qualifying for the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans, whence it qualified at 63rd, but it did not participate in the race.
The prototype EB112 (deep red), the Le Mans racer, and the IMSA racing EB110 America (silver car with No.1) were some of the cars that Gildo Pastor was left with after Bugatti’s bankruptcy. (Xavier de Nombel)
