“The Porsche (SL 055) lapped the Autodrome at a steady 103-105mph. This, when taking into consideration the necessary stops for refueling, oil checks, tyre, and driver changes, gave an average of around 99mph, which was maintained for more
than 48 hours. Thus the old class records were improved by a considerable margin. There was just one dramatic moment. Precisely as usual the car stopped for refueling and driver change in front of the small pit – the engineer held the fuel hose in
his hand, the tank closure was snapped open. They turned on the valve but not a drop of fuel came out.
