After swerving off the road on the twenty-first lap, Grandio brought his car back to the stands to retire, leaving his compatriot Alberto Rodriguez-Larreta unable to take over.
On June 17 in the 500 Millas Argentinas at Rafaela, Santa Fe district, Grandio reached third place in 4:46 hours. And finally, the last event of #2078 with Grandio behind the wheel was the Premio Invierno on June 29, 1956, raced on the Buenos Aires Autodromo where he did not finish. #2078 disappeared from the circuits for eighteen months and came back with the Guimarey brothers, Carlos and Julio who entered their black Maserati in the 1,000 Kilometers of Buenos Aires raced on January 26, 1958. Lamp symbol had been painted on the cockpit along with a white noseband around the radiator opening. The rear fenders had wider wheel arches that had also be painted white. The Guimarey brothers finished in Buenos Aires in eleventh place after covering 80 laps, versus 106 laps for the winners, Peter Collins and Phil Hill, in a Ferrari. This was the last known period race of #2078.
After the Buenos Aires race in 1958, #2078 then passed through several owners. Alberto Gomez, the owner of a car repair workshop in Buenos Aires, was the first. He crashed the car head-on while practicing at the Buenos Aires Autodromo. Then Guillermo Vago bought and resold it to Jorge Macome who completely restored the car and later sold it back to Vago in order to buy a Maserati 300S in 1971.
