Working with Roy Woods
Harvey next was asked to work for the Roy Woods Can-Am team. Woods recognized the unique skills Harvey had as both an excellent driver as well as mechanic. With Woods, one of Harvey’s important responsibilities was setting up the gear ratios for the Woods’ cars for each track at which they ran. Lasiter’s racing experience driving many of the same tracks undoubtedly helped with the gear box selection. Roy Woods started the season driving a McLaren-Elva Mark III while Harvey at the same time raced a Lola T70. Harvey remembers a particularly dicey incident during practice with Elford at the 1970 Laguna Seca Can-Am, Elford in the infamous Chaparral 2J “sucker car” and Harvey in his Lola T70 Spyder that Elford
