Seen here in the woods directly adjacent to the Le Mans circuit on the main straight after Tertre-Rouge corner, a replacement Cadillac engine is being installed courtesy of the logistical might of the USAF and General Curtis LeMay, (see page 614), a sports car exponent and keen on Allards. He and two other officers would have JRs, chassis 3402, 3403 and 3404 between them. Sydney’s car would lead as they passed the stands for the first time; unfortunately it was also the last time, as brake failure occurred. This car is NLN 652, chassis 3402.
