AppenDIx VII: Kellner brochures
1908 to 1910 Kellner Brochure
The Carrosserie de Luxe, Kellner et ses Fils brochure printed sometime between 1908 and 1910 was a hard-cover luxury brochure that contained a copious selection of the many, many body styles that were available in the early years of motoring. More a small book than a brochure, and a minor publishing feat in itself, the catalogue was contained by a dark green hard cover with the Kellner name and logo embossed in gold on the front.
The 52 pages contained 20 color prints of the various designs, each preceded by a sheet of semi-transparent rice paper printed in blue that described the body, its style and features in both French and English, with etchings of convertible styles shown both open and closed. At the end of the brochure, three pages are devoted to describing no less than eight possible jump seat variations available to the client. Spoiled for choice is a serious understatement.
A small number is printed in connection with the etchings or descriptions of the various body styles that are printed on the rice paper. This number is the Kellner body number for the design, and not a page number. The brochure itself is reproduced in sequence. It is not known why Kellner chose to order the styles in a non-sequential manner.
