THIS PAGE: Examples of the myriad of varied designs produced by Dietrich for Checker.
It could not be said that Markin failed to challenge Dietrich’s considerable design abilities, as well as his patience. His startling array of designs for Checker ranged from tank retrievers and amphibious “Airolls” for the U.S. Marine Corps to the well- regarded Model D, an Airline Bus or Aerobus, an ambulance, a medi- car, and in case the patient did not make it, a hearse.
Ray also designed a variety of trucks, plant layouts and office buildings, efficiency production designs, and even a renovation of Markin’s own home. Some of these are shown here. (Joe Fay Collection, CCCA Museum and ICTA)
