GBRAR partnered for a second time with the Capital Area Alliance for the Homeless to host a community-wide launch event for the CAAH initiative to develop a tiny home community to rehouse the chronically homeless. On March 4, 2020, the fundraising luncheon was held at the L’Auberge Hotel Convention Center and updated community stakeholders on the $250,000 in grant money, accomplished in 2019, to purchase land for the start of a Tiny Home Village.
The event was well attended, gained media coverage, with the Mayor’s representatives in attendance, Metro Council members, leaders from health care, finance, construction, religious organizations, and others.
Rebuilding Together Baton Rouge
Our efforts to help low-income homeowners that are elderly or disabled live in comfort, safety, and independence; three volunteer workdays were scheduled in 2020. However, all canceled due to the COVID 19 outbreak.
Raise Community Funds Through Dues
Efforts to raise community funds through dues billing significantly increased in the 2020 dues billing period with 1,612 members voluntarily donating. Approximately 51% of our membership gave this dues billing cycle, up from 32% in 2019.
Louisiana REALTORS® Relief Fund for Hurricane Laura-Donation
On August 27, the impact of Hurricane Laura was felt in many communities across Louisiana. The Disaster Relief Fund was established to provide for immediate needs and supplies as individuals and families face recovery and rebuilding efforts.
GBRAR Hurricane Laura Donations
In early September 2020, GBRAR launched a campaign to collecting supplies to help Hurricane Laura affected Areas of Southwest Louisiana, Central Louisiana, and DeRidder/Fort Polk.
GBRAR created an Amazon wish list to help those impacted by hurricane Laura. Members were able to order supplies delivered to our office and then trucked to affected areas by members of GBRAR for distribution.
