P. 48

Thank you Jim for being an absolute legend and an absolutely fantastic person and
mentor. It’s been a pleasure being a part of the UDrumline and you should feel amazing for being able to provide so many people with such a life changing experience.

I’ve never been one for wordy goodbyes, and I’m you’re all sick of seeing 10-page novellas of Senior Wills at this point, so I’ll keep this short.
Here’s my personal shoutout section: Quinn - ey what up
Alright now onto the next bit.
Coming into the UDMB I didn’t expect to feel a strong emotional connection with the program, but now that these four years are up, I’m glad I can say that I was wrong. Each year has had its own special moments and — as I reflected to some friends at the end of this most recent band camp — it felt like each season got better than the last all the way until the very end. Which makes reaching that end all the more difficult.
The program has changed a lot since I started here, and I know it’ll keep changing more and more in the years to come; these past four were just the beginning. My greatest thanks are that I got to be a part of that change, and I was fortunate enough to have the trust of the band with me and be able to trust in all of you. It’s been harder than expected closing this chapter of my life, but I find some solace in one of my favorite quotes that I’ll leave you with now:
“How lucky we are to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.” And don’t forget to lift up out of your hips when you perform.

Well, here I am again. For those of you who don’t know me, you probably play one of those brass instruments. I’m Madison and I play the piccolo. I want to start this off by saying thank you to the senior class of 2020 for letting me join you all in your shenanigans this year. I was really worried about coming back for my fifth year: worried that everything would be weird and different without seeing the people I started with. If I’m being honest, this has been hands down the best year of the band for me, and I’m so grateful for each and every person in this program.
