the opportunity to be in band that year cause “One” turned out to be an awesome show. Thank you to those who saw me come to band camp late and welcomed me back like I never left.
To all the people in this band, especially from my section who came before me, they paved the way for me. That is what I believe this band is supposed to do. It is the transition from one generation to the next. However, they leave it, we have to pick up right where they left off. Upperclassman try to show the rookies how the UDMB operates and hopefully those rookies take what they’ve learned and implement that process for the next set of rookies. The way I look at it, carrying on band traditions is important for the alumni. The alumni want to know they are leaving the band in good hands for the next group of people. The next group of people step up once the Seniors leave. That is exactly what I tried to do the last two seasons being on Field Staff. New people set up to make this band as great as it is.
Band has been that outlet for me to release all the stress I have in my life. Whether I am going through my hardest days or just need people to be around when I am feeling down, the UDMB has been there for me when I needed it most. Through my ups and my downs, I would have Band to go to as my escape outlet. We all know how difficult life in college can be, if you didn’t know already. This was the place to forget about all the nonsense and struggles I was dealing with and do something I really enjoy.
For 2 hours a day, 6 hours a week, and approximately 13 weeks per season, we have the opportunity to be a part of something special. Through all the blood, sweat, and tears (literally have experienced all three), the incredible group of people in this organization make it all worth it.
There are so many people to thank. I apologize if I don’t get to everyone but know no matter how big or small, everyone in this program has impacted me on some way shape or form.
Thank you to everyone who made my experience in the UDMB one that I will remember forever. In my life, I’ve loved them all.
To the Altos:
Wow, what a ride. We’ve really been through it all together. I don’t know what I would do without you guys. I am going to miss each and every one of you. Never stop the Alto traditions we do. Keep doing Alto Pyramids and Alto Cuddle Puddles. We accomplished some really amazing stuff this season. Each year I get to perform alongside you guys and you guys make me a better musician and a better person because of that. I will miss screaming out from the bus on the morning of a GameDay, “ON THE LEFT, 3....2.....................1, GAMEDAY!!!” My bad I would mess up the timing if the bus stopped at a light or something. This year was fun and hope we can all still stay in touch before I become old and graduate. I may have marched a trumpet dot for Pregame this year, but I am forever an Alto. You all have a special place in my heart. Peace Love Alto!
To AJ:
Your hustle to get back to your dot between sets was contagious. You have grown a lot since last season, and it’s been fun marching with you.
