And this year’s guard? This season’s guard was something else. And everyone knows that. You could tell something was different this year right from the start that this guard was something special. You could tell by the way they talked to each other and everyone else. You could tell right at the first ensemble rehearsal during band camp. And while I’d like to think Rach and I had something to do with that, I know that it’s them. Their kindness, their dedication, their attitude, their personalities...I can not have asked for a better group of people to spin my senior season with.
This band has given me so many opportunities like being able to sing for the Veterans day show and sing the voice over recording for Everything in Its Right Place last year. And being able to see my high school band perform at BOA and then perform for them was something I will never forget. And it also gives you the opportunity to meet so many people...that it’s impossible to name every person that I’ve become met and become friends with. But a few come to mind.
The freshman year squad (you know who you are): You were my first friends here. Thank you for all those late night adventures and shenanigans in the LL in Redding. Thank you for all the amazing snapchat memories that I now have. I always remember freshman year fondly, and that because of you guys.
Gargano: How many times did I come down to your room to hang out with you while you jammed out on your guitar freshman year? Wow I did that a lot didn’t I. You have been someone I can always rely on. Whether that’s talking me out of stupid decisions, being my lowkey therapist, cheering me up with your jokes, or showing me new music, you have always been there. And I cannot thank you enough for everything. Copa Cabana forever.
Ethan: To this day it still blows my mind that I roomed with your co-drum major at DMA. Fucking small world. Your smile and hugs always brighten my day. Thanks for being my Maryland buddy.
Jack: I wish we had met earlier because you’re amazing and you’ve been such a great friend to me. Thank you for going to the grocery store with me. Thank you for always being around to talk to. You have such a positive view on things and your smile is infectious, you really do make the room brighter when you walk in.
Steven: Thanks for letting me shit talk the Patriots to you and send you memes whenever they lose. And thank you for sassing me back when the Packers lose. Our friendship has had its moments but we’re always there for each other and that’s what’s important. Thank you for watching football with me in Redding. Thank you for being there for me. And the Patriots suck.
Alyssa: Hey bby. Thanks for being such a bubbly happy person. You were my go to for any questions I had and I appreciate you always answering and dealing with me. You’re so easy to talk to and such a woman. You’re gonna do great things.
Keith: You cute lil bean you. You were a great drum major this year but you’ll be even better next year. Look out for my babies next year okay? They love you. We were on the bus on our way to rehearsal before a game and none of the drum majors came on our bus that day, and the guard said “Where’s Keith? We want him to ride with us. We love Keith, he’s amazing.” Look after them okay?
Rah: Wow what a ride. From lil baby freshman me that was in the back of the flag block to old senior captain me at the front, it has been a journey. Thank you for everything. Thank you for trusting me and giving me the opportunity to help lead this group. It has been so fulfilling and I loved every minute of being in the UDCG. Now time for indoor.
