freshman year, and I will cherish having you as a roommate for my first year of college forever. Being your friend through these four years has allowed me to see you grow as a person, and has allowed me to see my own growth as well. You have helped me to grow as a person, to stop being afraid of commitment and my own feelings, and have helped me to admit when I need help. You’ve pulled me off the floor from depressive episodes, and you’ve been there with me when I have been at some of my highest points, and I’m really glad that it was you that I chose to be there for that and not someone else. Thank you for being such a great friend to me these last four years, and I hope it doesn’t end here.
This year’s Alto Freshmen (Brant, Matt, Erin, and Julia):
It was such a pleasure getting to know all of you this year, and I am sad that I won’t get to know you more. Brant, you have so much passion for politics and so much passion for everything you do, and I admire that about you. You carry so much positivity and so much joy. You can truly accomplish anything you want, and I hope to see you in office somewhere in politics some day because you are the type of younger person that we need in politics trying to right the wrongs in this country. Matt, I know this was your first year marching, but I really hope that you stick with it, because you did an amazing job. I know how difficult it can be coming in with no marching experience (as I was in the same experience) and you really embraced it and picked it up so well. I hope you stick with it, because you were wonderful this year and it only gets better from here. Erin, I didn’t get to know you all that well, but I feel like you started out the year dreading it a little with band camp, and I’ve seen you get more excited and a little more into it as the year goes on. Band camp is always the rough part, the rest of the season is the really good section of it, and after your first year of band camp, it’s much easier. But, if you decide you aren’t about it, that’s okay. You have to really enjoy it if you’re going to do it or it is just a drag. Go with your heart. Julia, you’ve gone through some serious hell, but you are a wonderful girl, and I swear you are going to be extremely successful one day, because you have so much fight in you. I can’t wait to be able to say someday that I marched with that girl, because you are going to accomplish great things. Never give up, and know that there is ALWAYS someone in your corner. I hope all of you continue to do band, because you all are going to make excellent vets and will be an excellent group to help “raise” the next class of rookies.
The Sophomores (Holden, Alec, Brandon, AJ, Cassie):
I remember last year when most of you started (sorry Holden) and I remember the sheer terror I felt in knowing that I was going to be an “example” for a new group of rookies. I was at a weird place in my life, and I didn’t want to be a bad influence on anyone. However, you ALL came in full force and blew me away. All of you. You all came in and showed most of us Vets up! You were a rookie class that was small but mighty. Holden: I’ve only gotten to know you over a brief period of time, but I can see that you are such a sweet and wholesome human. You helped me out in a “situation” that you never should have had too, and it sure seemed like you didn’t even think twice about it. Always stay that kind, because we really need more genuinely kind and caring people in this world. I hope you continue to do band, because you fit in well with this group. Alec: You are such a little nugget and you are amazing. I hope that you go out for staff one day because you are an excellent leader, even when not asked to. You lead within the section in a kind and subtle manner, and you help people even when not asked to. Even if you do not do staff, never stop being that way because you are fantastic in leading and this band needs more people like you to guide them in the right direction. Brandon: I didn’t get to talk to you much, and I think we may have been at odds here and there, but I hope you continue to do music with as much passion as you do, because following your passion in life can lead to so much joy, and I can see the joy it brings you. AJ: I am so sorry at all the stupid questions I ask all the time, and all my dumb comments, especially about the chicken hat,
