life. Finally, I feel I just need to tell you that you are doing well. I know that sometimes things are stressful and hard and seems impossible. But you’ll make it through. You always do. Knowing you, you are probably sitting at the banquet table thinking/working on stuff for a class. Close the laptop/notebook and enjoy your time off. It’s something I’ve really learned to take advantage of when I get it and learned to make when I actually need it, not necessarily when I have it.
Evan Mallon, Josh, Jordan (aka JS), Alex, Bobby, Maddy, and Dan – You guys were part of my rookie trumpet class. Even though you didn’t do band all the way till now, I wish all of you the best of success and happiness moving forward with everything that you do!
Thomas Swayne – you get a special mention since we were really close for the two years that you were in band. You probably won’t see this, but it feels weird leaving this out. I still see you from time to time on campus or at DOKs, but you are such a cool, quirky and nerdy guy. Hope you’re still doing the body rolls and rocking the confidence!
Jacob Tims – Beginning of the trumpet seniors...I’ll admit I don’t know you as well as I feel like I should. But I’m happy to have been a rank leader alongside you for two years and to watch you do your thing as the front-rank leader this year. You are a natural leader and I’m proud to have been able to march alongside you.
Evan Mullen – THAT’S MY ROOMMATE! I know I don’t see you all that often because our schedules don’t align that much, but it’s been fun living with you since June. The impromptu discussions about things, deciding to go to Wendy’s with Bri and Nick (we need to do that again), among other things are such good times. Thanks for being a great roommate and here’s to the next few months living together!
Jill Laakso – Music Major buddy! We’ve been through a lot together (3 professors being the most major change I can think of at this exact moment and time). I’ve been able to work alongside you and watch both of us grow together as musicians and I’m happy to call you a talented colleague and friend. I wish you the best of luck as you do grad school things.
Ethan Weinstein – CRICKET! I know you can’t make the sound all that well anymore, but it felt wrong leaving your nickname out. I’m really glad that we managed to find our way into the same friend group – the late night frisbee tosses, pool tournaments, and hanging out in Redding are among my favorite memories from freshman year.
Matt Chalupa – I don’t really have the words to express what I feel like I need to. From band orientation, to me you were the “tall guy really into trains” (and in some ways you still are) to my best friend throughout college. I know that once I moved into an apartment, we kind of fell out of touch for a while, but I’m glad that we have managed to reconnect through band. You have always been a supporter of me and I’m grateful that I have gotten the chance to get to know you as well as I have. You are one of my best friends and I can’t wait to hear about when you do something cool for Amtrak or something so that we can celebrate. I’m still annoyed that we never really had our time directly next to each other on the field (other than in Pregame this year) and I fully blame you for that since you were drill section leader this year, but I can’t blame you for other years. &'()
Outside of the trumpet section, there are a few other people that I feel that I need to recognize to have helped me make it this far.
Kerry Hitchner, Anthony Chan, and Adam Scherr – You all at one point were rookie buddies of mine, and I am sorry that I was not as present as a staff buddy as I should have. However, I wish each of you the best of luck and success in what you do moving forward.
