Improving female representation in rail
If we want more diverse rail workplaces, and a more diverse industry as a whole, we need to encourage women to participate.
Why is this important?
This issue was addressed by many women and they had lots of suggestions about increasing female representation in rail:
It really comes down to a simple question about diversity in general - and if you believe that organisations should reflect the communities in which they operate – the answer is obvious. There is an added ‘bonus’ however. To cite the Human Rights Commission:
“We need to a ra other skills beyond engineering.
“Resear demonstrates that organisa ons that manage cul ral diversi well can expe to receive a host of benefits, in uding greater employee commitment and team performance, larger market share and be er customer and ient sa sfa ion.
“Ge ng rid of the ‘boys’ ub’.
The website provides a tool for employers to assess their competency in relation to cultural diversity and practical steps to help reach best practice: culturaldiversity.humanrights.gov.au
“Go speak to universi es and TAFEs, careers expo’s, do marke ng campaigns using real staff. Publish ar es...
“Promo ng a less hostile environment and workplace.
“Start promo ng young, with s ools, and get girls into STEM.
“Show the oppor ni es in rail and what is good about rail.
“Using women in promo onal campaigns and adver sing.
