The Catholic faith reveres the sanctity of life and therefore no investment is allowed in those companies:
Ÿ Whose activities include direct participation in or support of the wilful taking of life, including abortion and euthanasia. Direct participation in abortion may include, but not be limited to, companies involved in the manufacture of abortifacients and publicly held healthcare companies that perform abortions
Ÿ That manufacture contraceptives or derive greater than 10% of their reported annual revenue from the sale of contraceptives, even if they do not manufacture them
Ÿ That engage in scienti c research on human foetuses or embryos that (1) results in the end of pre-natal human life; (2) makes use of tissue derived from abortions or other life-ending activities; or (three) violates the dignity of a developing person. Speci c activities covered by the policy will include:
o Embryonicstemcellresearch
o Foetal tissue research or stem cell research derived from
embryos
o Humancloning
o That derive any turnover from the production of tobacco or tobacco products
The bene ciaries of the charity are those who are experiencing poverty in the world today. Therefore, the charity will not invest in those companies that contribute to poverty such as those:
Ÿ That operate/own casinos or gambling arcades, or derive more than 10% of their reported annual revenue from gambling activities
Ÿ Whose policies are found to be discriminatory against women
Ÿ Who operate in Category A countries (as de ned by Ethical Investment Research Services/Freedom House) but have provided no evidence of policies to manage human rights issues
Ÿ That generate more than 10% of their reported revenue from military weapons production or sales
Ÿ That are directly involved in the manufacture, sale, or use of anti- personnel landmines, or the development of weapons inconsistent with Catholic teaching on war (e.g. biological and chemical weapons, arms
