PLEASED skills
Reducing Vulnerability
We cannot eliminate existent biological vulnerabilities like genetic factors and things that have happened to us in the past. In order to reduce vulnerability, we must focus on the present. Part of the stress-vulnerability model is an acknowledgement of the mind- body connection. The mind-body connection suggests that how we treat our physical selves affects or mental selves, and how we think and act affects our physical selves.
The PLEASED Skills described below allows us to focus on ways to reduce our vulnerability to intense emotions and improve our overall tolerance of stressful events.
Physical Health
List Resources and Barriers Eat Balanced Meals
Avoid Drugs and Alcohol
Sleep Between 7 and 10 Hours Exercise Regularly

Physical Health: We must attend to our physical health to feel well. That means staying current on health through regular medical checkups and engaging in skills and behaviors that keep our bodies healthy. It also means treating illnesses when it arises and complying with medical advice. Take medications as prescribed (or consult with your prescriber) and make life changes to minimize use of medications when indicated. Always consider how your physical health may be impacting your mental health.
Questions: How do you feel emotionally when you are sick? What happens to your symptoms? What makes it hard to go to the doctor? What helps you manage your physical health and well-being?
