program and talked about with everyone. Permission to talk, text, and use social media can be granted if all members have access to those outlets.
Participation—Members and parents or caregivers are expected to actively engage in the process. Active participation involves, but is not limited to, asking and answering questions during teaching and process time, actively listening, offering feedback to others, completion of daily logs and other therapeutic assignments, and bringing DBT manuals to session. Members are expected to take time to problem solve barriers to skill use and identify effective skills to use when experiencing a crisis or elevated levels of distress. Members will attend programming twice weekly from 5PM to 6:30PM, with an optional welcome and snack time beginning at 4:45PM. Parents or caregivers will attend programming once weekly to increase treatment benefits in the home. Members and parents or caregivers are expected to participate in program for the entire session and leave when program is scheduled to end.
Feedback and behavior—Skillful, respectful, and effective behaviors are expected at program. Members will be given verbal reminders and may be asked to take a break or leave program for the day if disrespectful behavior continues. Behavior contracts may also be utilized. Behavior contracts are interventions that address disrespectful behaviors and identify more skillful and effective behaviors required for program. A pattern of disrespectful behavior may be grounds for discharge.
Members must not:
o Interrupt others
o Yell at, hit, or spit on others
o Enter the personal space of others without their permission or steal from program o Swear or use inappropriate language
o Use judgmental language
o Argue or disobey instructions or directives given
o Engage in safety concerns or illegal behaviors on premises
o Engage in safety concerns or illegal behaviors with other program peers
Members are expected to:
o Demonstrate genuine interest in others
o Offer respectful and relevant feedback to others during process time
o Skillfully accept feedback and skill suggestions from others
o Replace stolen or broken items and apologize
o Call parent or caregiver immediately for pick up when asked to leave program. Parents or caregivers will use
their own discretion when choosing to be available for their child. The program therapist will not be responsible for supervising and accompanying any member when the member is outside of the program room. This includes before and after program as well as when on breaks.
Cell phones and electronics—Members and parents or caregivers are expected to silence or turn off all electronic devices when at program. Use of electronics can wait for break. Electronic devices may be collected by the therapist and returned at the end of the session if this rule cannot be respected.
Breaks—Members are expected to be skillful, respectful, and effective during break times. Members will write their daily logs on the board at the beginning of break time. Meanwhile, they will use appropriate voice volume, language, and behaviors in the hallways. Members can only use the elevator when necessary and will only access the building floors where programming occurs.
Drugs, alcohol, and other mood altering substances—Members cannot come to program under the influence of drugs, alcohol, or other mood altering substances (including caffeine). Members cannot bring drug paraphernalia to program. Caffeine is not allowed during programming. While use of hemp-based CBD, in any form, and dab pens are legal in Minnesota, it is MHS policy that they will not be used on premises or during breaks. Use of any of the above, can be cause for immediate discharge.
Members are expected to comply with prescription medications and use as prescribed.
