Distress Tolerance ACCEPTING REALITY SKILLS

What is acceptance? Acceptance is to see “what is,” to take, or to receive something.
Examples of things I readily accept:
 agift
 a phone call
 ahug 
If I cannot accept something, I might:
 try to yell & scream until I get my way
 pretend like everything is okay when it’s not
 think & talk about something upsetting over & over & over
 miss out on the positives
 feel worse than before
 get tired 

Accepting reality will help me:
 bring a sense of calm
 see & focus on what I need to do 

Accepting Reality Skills—help me accept “what is” instead of fighting to change reality, or what I cannot change
These skills include: Half- Smile, Willingness, Turn the Mind, Radical Acceptance, and Everyday Acceptance
