Distress Tolerance ACCEPTING REALITY SKILLS
2.
What is acceptance? Acceptance is to see “what is,” to take, or to receive something.
Examples of things I readily accept:
agift
a phone call
ahug
If I cannot accept something, I might:
try to yell & scream until I get my way
pretend like everything is okay when it’s not
think & talk about something upsetting over & over & over
miss out on the positives
feel worse than before
get tired
Accepting reality will help me:
bring a sense of calm
see & focus on what I need to do
Accepting Reality Skills—help me accept “what is” instead of fighting to change reality, or what I cannot change
These skills include: Half- Smile, Willingness, Turn the Mind, Radical Acceptance, and Everyday Acceptance
