Hydrogen Society of Tomorrow – Established in Sandviken Today
Dr. Mats W Lundberg has a M.Sc (2000) and Ph.D. (2004) in Materials Chemistry from Lund University in Sweden. He currently serves as Sustainability Specialist at Sandvik Materials Technology’s Research and Innovation department.
After he received his doctorate, he worked for Spectral Solutons AB with technical sales until mid-2007. He then progressed to a post-doctoral position at The Fuel Cells and Solid State Chemistry Department, Risø National Laboratory for Sustainable Energy (Risoe DTU).
In 2009, he started as scientist at the same department and the research conducted was focused on metal supported fuel cells and materials for electrolysis and analysis. In May
2010, Dr. Lundberg began working at Sandvik with his main focus on interconnects for solid oxide fuel cells. In 2013, he became R&D Principal Engineer at Sandvik Materials Technology in the “Surface Technology” group. He has been a Deputy Board Member (employee representative) at Sandvik AB, since May 2015.
Dr. Lundberg is a frequent lecturer on fuel cells, electrolysis and the hydrogen society. For instance, he
has presented to Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfven and has taught seminars in Almedalen. He is the initiator of the project Zero Emission Vehicles at Sandvik (ZEVAS), which led to the investment of a hydrogen refueling station in Sandviken as well as hydrogen vehicles. The ZEVAS project was awarded the Sandviken Municipality Environment Prize in 2014
