the west coast of Ireland and further afield. As such additional layers of redundancies are required along with additional equipment such as pumps etc. to operate the larger equipment fitted onboard i.e. Main Engines, onboard an OPV.
For engineers entering the service is there a structured rotation to familiarise them with the particular aspects of each vessel within the NS?
Yes, taking my career to date I have through my training served onboard x3 of the LÉ Deirdre Class, x2 of the LÉ Orla Class, LÉ Eithne, x2 of the LÉ Roisin Class and x2 of the LÉ Samuel Beckett Class. The majority of the time served onboard these vessels was with the training phase of my career where an Engineering Cadet and Engineering Officer under Training. This was achieved through rotation to all vessel during holiday period from College and per-determined period as required by the Department of Transport.

How do you hope to see your own career develop within the NS?
Currently I am serving onboard LÉ George Bernard Shaw. On completion of this posting in mid-2020 I hope to be posted to the either Naval Dockyard or Main Technical Stores in order to utilise the skills that have learnt and developed through my participation within the build programme and warranty period. However, looking further down the line I hope to be posted the Naval College Technical Training School and contribute to the development of next generation of engineers, artificers and mechanician’s.
