NMCI Student of the Year Award
Sinead O’Neill graduated from the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI), Cork, with the Bachelor of Business in Supply Chain and Transport Management. Sinead is the proud recipient of the NMCI ‘Student of the Year’ award 2016-2017 for outstanding performance, sponsored by CILT.
The prospect of returning to education while juggling a fulltime job at Boston Scientific Corporation (BSC) along with family commitments was rather daunting. “The course coordinator Jane O’Keeffe and all the lecturers were very supportive and encouraging and helped ease the transition with minimal stress. NMCI was the right college for me. There was a great team spirit and camaraderie in our class and I can’t imagine I would have found that anywhere else,”
said Sinead.
Prior to starting the course Sinead had gained a multitude of technical and practical experience during her 19 years working at BSC Cork. Sinead has been afforded many opportunities to learn and develop her capabilities. “From my initial position as a Product Builder to my current position as Value Stream Manager where I have responsibility for a business unit of 200 employees”.
Over the past five years, Sinead has completed two international assignments, one in California and another in Minnesota, as part of a rotation plan for high potential individuals. This has helped further enhance and expand her business knowledge and leadership skills. “The degree course at the NMCI has broadened and strengthened my knowledge and skills in the supply chain sector and has provided me with new skills, thus improving my ability to make business decisions with the overall business strategy in mind. This will ultimately benefit both me and the business in which I work”.
