DUBLIN’S BALLYMUN BLAZE
NATIONAL NEWS
A massive fire outbreak was reported on March 21st at the Metro Hotel and Apartment complex in Ballymun made up of 88 hotel rooms and 30 private apartments.
The fire broke out on the 13th floor in one of the private apartments above the hotel rooms for guests but then soon spread to other floors within the building.
Around 150 guests were staying in the hotel at the time along with those who permanently resided. Over 60 firefighters and eight fire engines were present at the
scene to extinguish the major blaze that completely destroyed five upper floors.
The hotel was used as temporary, homeless accommodation in recent years, but there were no families living in the building other than those with private and permanent residency in the apartment complex.
Dublin's Chief Fire Officer Patrick Fleming said that it will be several months before the building can be returned to use and indicated the fire wasn’t caused by suspicious activity.

LIMERICK CITY FIRE SERVICES SWIFTLY MAKE IT TO THE RESCUE
Limerick City Fire Services came to the aid of two teenagers on the night of April 3rd as they were left trapped under the Metal Bridge at Long Pavement.
It is understood the two girls were out walking and became trapped due to rising tides that caught them off guard. Within minutes of the alarm being raised, three
emergency services personnel responded accordingly. Swiftwater firefighters aboard the Fireswift rescue boat promptly rescued the girls and brought them to safety at Barringtons Quay where an ambulance awaited.
However, no hospital treatment was required.
