Diploma Graduation Ceremony 2018
The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport seventeenth Diploma Graduation Ceremony took place on the 6 October in the Smurfit Graduate Business School, UCD, Blackrock, County Dublin.
A total of thirty-five graduates were awarded their Diploma qualifications and Chartered Membership of the Institute.
The ceremony honoured the graduates for their achievements in studying over the two years and the dedication that is required during this time. This commitment by each graduate could be seen on the faces of proud family and friends who joined in a round of applause for every person graduating on the day.
The ceremony this year was opened by Mick Curran, CEO who acted as master of ceremonies. Mick welcomed the graduates, family and friends to the ceremony and spoke warmly of students and their achievement they had accomplished over the two years of study. This is the first graduation for Mark Coffey the new Education Manager since Jerry Meredith departed the Institute in March. Mark was delighted to meet the students and their families and to speak to them all about how the last two years of study had been.
Head Lecturer of the Diploma Larry Banville delivered the introduction on the day and read out the graduates’ names during the conferring ceremony. Larry spoke of how proud he was of all the individual students and was delighted to see all their hard work pay off over the two years.
Professor Brian Fynes FCILT of UCD Smurfit Business School was one of the guest speakers on the day. Brian addressed the graduates and thanked them for their commitment and hard work over the two years of the course. As ever Brian’s words were insightful and entertaining and filled the lecture theatre with laughter.
Kevin Byrne FCILT International President gave a speech to the graduates about the importance of education and being part of the Institute. All graduates this year received a year of
free membership and Kevin encouraged them all to keep up their membership and engage with the Institute at our various events and media throughout the year.
The formal presentation of certificates then took place. The Graduates were presented with their Diploma Certificates by Professor Brian Fynes FCILT and CILT Chartered Membership Certificates by International President, Kevin Byrne FCILT.
The final part of the presentation was the awarding of Student of the Year to Dawid Stachura for his overall academic results over the two years of the Diploma. Larry spoke warmly of Dawid and his hard work and the results that he received.
Unfortunately, Dawid was abroad with his job and unable to attend on the day. When he learned he was to be awarded Student of the Year Dawid was extremely happy to hear he came top of the year.
Dawid will be officially awarded his certificate and prize for Student of the Year at a later ceremony. In the next Linkline we will have official photos from that ceremony.
