Back to Education for Martin MacNeill
- Now a 2018 Diploma Graduate
Having close to 30 year’s experience in the Business of Logistics and Supply Chain
I became aware that I needed to make some moves with regards to re-educating myself. In order to pursue new career opportunities, I needed to get a qualification to support my experience in my chosen field of expertise. Previously, I had worked for American multinational businesses, Irish corporate businesses and in a consulting capacity for myself for a period.
The decision to undertake the two-year CILT Diploma Course initially seemed quite daunting turned out to be the best decision of my career to date. The two years went by so quickly it was hard to believe that it was so easy in the end. While having to give up some Saturdays after a long hard- working week it really wasn’t as scary or hard as I thought it would be.
After the introduction classes in late September and lectures begun in October the course is broken down by modules which take three to four full Saturdays. Then with the two semesters, holidays and midterm breaks, the time flew by. The lecturers, guest speakers and staff at the Institute were very supportive of all the students. Other than the usual bit of pressure to have your assignments in on time! But we did get plenty of notice of these. However, I must say there was
flexibility in this regard to assignments, any student with an issue spoke with the Education Manager for an extension.
Two years passed in the blink of an eye and I graduated on 6 October 2018 with my classmates. It was a proud day for myself and my family. The completion of my hard work and the decision to get the Qualification that I wanted for so long has resulted in me securing employment in Pfizer Ireland as Engineering Stores Manager. Pharma was always something that I wanted to have on my C.V. but it had proven difficult to break into the field as it is pretty competitive when it comes to securing employment in the sector. An opportunity came about during the first year of the Diploma course and I can safely say that along with the many years of experience and the fact that I was in the middle of the Diploma course was certainly a positive for me securing the job of my dreams.
