Congratulations are in order for CILT Council Member Janet Kavanagh CMILT who won the CILT (UK) LRN Conference 2018 MSc Dissertation of the Year in September. Janet recently graduated with a first-class honours in Master of Science in Supply Chain Management from the National Institute for Transport and Logistics (NITL) at Dublin Institute of Technology, Bolton Street. The annual competition is open to MSc. students in the UK and Ireland who completed their Dissertations in 2018.
Janet’s paper is titled ‘Coopetition with a Supply Chain Lens, Can it Add Strategic Advantage’.
About Janet’s Dissertation:
The dissertation aims to understand if collaboration through co-opetition to gain strategic advantages, can aid the Irish Whiskey sector achieve its aim of becoming a world leader. The whiskey sector is undergoing a renaissance and is supporting the development of new distilleries to fulfil the ambition by 2030. To support this, they have identified Co-opetition as a strategic driver. Co-opetition is
collaboration with competitors to provide mutual benefits through knowledge sharing. While there is extensive literature on collaboration and knowledge sharing, Co- opetition is still developing and there is virtually no research on this aspect with regard to the Irish Whiskey sector, this research will address this gap. Her supervisor was Nikolas Valantasis, a PhD candidate in DIT.
