Foreword by Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport
As the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport publishes its Members’Yearbook for 2019, I would like to commend the Institute for providing valuable expertise and support for the transport and logistics sector in Ireland.
We depend on the capability of the transport and logistics industry to distribute and export the goods and materials that are the lifeblood of our economy. Those involved in the sector undertake this enterprise with great energy and efficiency and I would like to acknowledge their important contribution in helping to sustain the progress and prosperity of our country.
I am pleased that as I write this we have a growing economy, which brings a welcome upturn in activity in the transport and logistics sector. Challenges remain, however, not least the problems and uncertainties posed by Brexit. My Department will continue to support the sector both in times of opportunity and difficulty and we will be mindful of and responsive to its concerns.
CILT has attained a deserved status in Ireland as a leading professional body in the field of transport and logistics. The Institute plays a valued role in promoting education and professionalism in the sector, underlined by its dedication to high standards in its work. My Department appreciates the relationship that has been forged with the Institute over the years, which will continue to develop as we work together in the future.
I congratulate CILT on this publication and I extend my best wishes to the Institute for continued accomplishment in all of its current and future undertakings.
