A treasure trove of historical buildings and landmarks await; including abbeys, high crosses, ancient burial tombs, round towers and spectacular castles.
Driver hack:
Crookstown Service Station is located just off the main Dublin to Waterford road (M9), 30 minutes from Dublin and Kilkenny. It is a useful pit-stop that has a deli counter, fuel to buy and toilet facilities. From the South take Exit 3 off the M9 and follow signs for Crookstown Service Station. Re-enter Motorway at Exit 2. From the North take Exit 2 off the M9 for Athy and take a right at top of flyover. Next left onto the old N9, driving parallel to the M9. Re-enter Motorway at Exit 3.
Did You Know?
In 1641 Kilkenny was actually the capital city of Ireland and remained the capital for nine years until the Cromwell led conquest of Ireland in 1649.
