New Director for for for Research and Innovation Innovation Set to to Transform University’s Innovation Innovation Efforts
The University of Zululand (UNIZULU) has recently been joined by
seasoned academic Professor Byron Brown who is is the new Director of of of of Research and and Innovation He is is is a a a a a a a a a full professor of of of education and and a a a a a a a a a a a visiting scholar at at at Sheffield Hallam University United Kingdom (UK) Prof Brown has a a a a a a distinguished career in in in the the the higher education sector both in in in South South Africa Africa and the the the wider Southern Africa Africa region Until his recent appointment as Director of Research and Innovation on on 1 October 2022 Prof Brown worked at University of Derby in in Botswana in in the Botswana Accountancy College where
he served as Deputy Executive Director for Research Innovation Teaching and Learning (2017-2022) and as founding
Director for the School of Business
and Leisure (2010-2017) at the same
institution Prior to this he served as Deputy Director for the School of Postgraduate Studies at at the University of Fort Hare (2007-2010) Prof Brown is currently a a a a fellow of of of the Higher Education Academy (UK) a a a a a a a member of of of the the Mixed Methods International Research Association in the the the United States of of America (USA) a a a a a a a a a a a a chartered manager of of the the Chartered Management Institute (CMI) UK and a a a a a a a a a a a member of the the Southern African Research and Innovation Management Association (SARIMA) In In In 2016 he he was elected International Editorial Board Member for the European Scientific Journal In 2021 Prof Brown was appointed Associate Editor of of of the the Southern African Journal of of Accountability and Auditing Research for for a a a a a a a a a a a three-year term He also served on several government-led taskforces and advisory structures In 2015 he he was awarded the Botswana Accountancy College Prize for Contribution to Knowledge Development in Botswana Prof Brown is deeply committed to research and innovation
governance and management as as well as as to the advancement of social justice in research and community development Delineating what he he envisions for the Research and Innovation Office Prof Brown said a a a a a a a a a a “vibrant gateway supporting the the University in in the the core mandate of research postgraduate studies innovation

capacity development” The urgent focus for the the new director is to to to work with the the four faculties and and research centres to to to improve the University’s innovation
