As we are on track to wrap yet another successful year in the the the University calendar I want want to to congratulate all our students for their hard work and and dedication and and I want want to to also thank our academic staff members involved in in in the the process for making this exam season such a a a a a a a a success Further I thank our support staff members for their unwavering hard work in in in in ensuring that the the the administration section of the the University functions as a a a a a a a high performance and excellence-driven culture The University’s vision has allowed us to to develop alternative ontological and epistemological orientations anchored on on on African thoughts as as this has been evidenced when we we were hosting the groundbreaking Inaugural Conference on on African African Thought Thought which was titled “Advancing African African Thought” on on on the 17-19 November 2022 The University took a a a a bold decision to to to move beyond creating a a a a a a a a discursive space designed to to to to ignite new imaginations about the the trajectory of the the University Knowledge as a a a a a a a a a social project at UNIZULU
is is informed by its own African history and and identity We consciously embrace epistemologies of of of the the global sum as part and and and parcel of of of of the the the the geo-politics of of of of knowledge and and the the the problematic epistemologies of of of the the the global norm We stand resolute and and in in in solidarity with the the the rest of of the the the country in in in in tackling the the the scourges we are facing as citizens of of South Africa Our University remains committed to to responding to to the societal issues of our country and gender- based violence (GBV) is is an an ongoing tragedy that also affects our campuses Our University is a a a a a a a a a a place of study and work to over 11
000 females These are employees who who have aspirations for their their future and and students who who are are are a a a a a a a a a beam of hope to their their parents and and siblings where they are are are coming from
It is common sense that their aspirations cannot thrive in in a a a a a a a violent environment Gender-based violence is is not an an an an an an organ it it is is is given life by human human beings beings As such it it it is is human human beings beings that can put an an an an an an end end to it it UNIZULU
has long adopted a a a a a a a a a a a a Sexual Harassment and and Gender-Based Violence Policy and and and opened a a a a a a a a a a a a a a Pastoral Care Unit with an an an an aim to to to to prevent monitor and and where necessary take action against perpetrators The realisation of of this aim is is is in in in in the the the hands of of all in in in in the the the University community I therefore urge everyone to join hands in in in in in ending gender-ased violence in in in in in our University and and communities in in in general ESTABLISHING A A A A DURABLE FOUNDATION
Staying on the competitive edge I I am delighted to announce our partnership with the the South African Technology Network (SATN) This programme is is is in in response to the the the Minister’s call for the the production of of a a a a a a a critical mass of of quality masters PhDs supervisors and academic publications from
universities across South Africa as as well as as in in response to the the targets set in in the the National Development Plan (NDP) We have developed a a a a a a a a a unique and bespoke set of programmes in this regard 3
