  learning into entrepreneurship education. Distinguished speakers from Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT) emphasized the importance of collaboration in fostering innovation and strengthening the entrepreneurial ecosystem in institutions of higher learning.
The Innobiz DUT participated in a two-day workshop under the theme Entrepreneurship for Sustainability, hosted by Entrepreneurship Development in Higher Education (EDHE) and Universities South Africa (USAf). The event focused on strategies to enhance entrepreneurial ecosystems within universities, with 26 institutions sharing best practices. A key highlight was the launch of the 2024 Impact Report by EDHE. Innobiz DUT also partnered with the Moses Kotane Institute (MKI) to provide a cellphone repairs training program for tech-incubated students. Participants completed the Mobile Repair Technician Programme and received certification through a partnership with Vaal University of Technology E-Skills CoLab, the KZN Department of Social Development, and other local departments. Additionally, in collaboration with the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS), Innobiz DUT promoted bursary opportunities and the Arso Essay Competition among students, offering a platform to compete for bursaries valued up to R150,000.
In the first quarter, the Advancement and Alumni Relations Unit (AARU) successfully secured funding from the Engineering Education Trust and RandYork Coretrays Pty (Ltd),further advancing its efforts to build meaningful relationships with various organizations.Among our long-standing partners are the Albert Wessels Trust, Toyota South Africa, the Victor Daitz Foundation, Lloyd’s Register, Toyota
Tsusho, SA Home Loans, the Iqraa Trust, NMI, and the Bradlow Foundation.Through these valuable partnerships, the unit was able to raise R12 million last year, providing financial support to over 200 students.As part of ongoing efforts to expand and strengthen network of partners, the unit has engaged with Nedbank in the first quarter. Nedbank has agreed to support DUT, and are currently finalizing the details of their involvement, including identifying the specific initiatives and projects that will benefit from their support.
The DUT’s Enterprise Risk Management Unit in collaboration with the KZN Department of Education hosted Risk Management Workshops in March 2025 for the school principals in the Mahlabathini District as part of its engagement for social impact initiative.The workshops are aimed equipping school management bodies with the knowledge and practical tools to identify, assess, and manage risks that could affect their schools and also support school leadership in developing risk mitigation strategies to ensure the safety and well-being of learners, staff, and stakeholders.
Through these initiatives, DUT is reinforcing its commitment to research, innovation, entrepreneurship, and academic excellence, contributing significantly to both local and global development.
3.4.2 Industry-specific Projects and Research.
In a strategic industry partnership, FMS has collaborated with RedDotVehicle Logistics to enhance sustainability in its operations. One of RedDot’s key objectives is to reduce carbon emissions by 20% across its logistics network.This collaboration has led to the initiation of a PhD research project aimed at analyzing the company’s carbon footprint using operational data and optimizing
