 4. ACHIEVEMENTS AND MILESTONES
DUT’s research outputs have exceeded expectations, with 531.61 units for journal articles, 46.69 units for conference proceedings, and 42.22 units for book chapters, totaling 620.52 units as of March 2025. This has been an increase from 575.40 units in 2023.
 DUT through TTI has made significant strides, securing R800,000 from the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA), finalizing an official contract to host the GISU Global
Entrepreneurship Competition in October 2025, and securing R50,200 from THENSA for the EVB project. Additionally, TTI formed a partnership with JAMK, facilitating the exchange of four students for a four-month entrepreneurship training programme in Finland, as well as two staff members participating in a two-week Erasmus staff exchange.
KZN IEETR has achieved significant milestones, securing 75,000 Euros in funding, establishing national and international partnerships, and gaining official acceptance to participate in MEBC 2025.
DUT in collaboration with industry partners such as LEEDHR, Zaio, Dazela Holdings, and SAP, successfully placed approximately 30 DUT graduates in internship programmes. Additionally, the Finance and Accounting Services Sector Education and Training
Authority (FASSET) awarded R4,550,000 in February 2025 to fund internship placements for 70 additional DUT graduates. Furthermore, MICTSETA secured R736,000 for 10 ICT students as part of an experiential learning initiative to develop a Knowledge Management System aimed at improving operational efficiency.
The IWWT secured R525,000 in grants for quartile one and achieved significant academic milestones, including the publication of 9 articles with an average impact factor of 7.2. During the upcoming autumn graduation, the institute will celebrate the graduation of two PhD, two MSc, and four BSc Hons students.
In partnership with the Beijing Foreign Studies University (BFSU) African Institute, DUT successfully launched the first-ever Zulu Language Summer Camp in South Africa, hosting six BFSU students for a five-month exchange programme.This initiative strengthens ties between China and South Africa, promoting cultural exchange and language learning.
