The Technology, Transfer, and Innovation (TTI), along with Innobiz DUT and the Centre for Social Entrepreneurship and Rapid Incubator (CSERI), have played a crucial role in fostering entrepreneurship and innovation. However, challenges such as resource constraints and student engagement persist. There are strategic opportunities to expand partnerships, secure additional funding, and leverage digital platforms to enhance outreach and support for student-led enterprises.
The Corporate Affairs continues to strengthen the DUT brand through collaborative partnerships and impactful campaigns. Efforts are underway to enhance the Innobiz DUT social media campaign by developing a structured content calendar, forging strategic collaborations, and aligning initiatives with DUT’s ENVISION2030 goals. Student recruitment activities remain a priority, with upcoming career exhibitions and Open Week aiming to attract prospective students from all provinces in South Africa and beyond.
The International Education and Partnerships (IEP) unit remains focused on strengthening global collaborations, student mobility, and internationalization strategies. DUT continues to enhance its reputation through international partnerships, exchange programmes, and academic collaborations aimed at fostering a global perspective among students and faculty members.
The Advancement and Alumni Relations Unit (AARU) has made significant progress in securing funding and fostering relationships with key partners. In the past year, its fundraising efforts resulted in R12 million being raised, benefiting over 200 students. The unit continues to engage with corporate and philanthropic organizations, and new partnerships, such as the one currently being finalized with Nedbank, will further strengthen financial support for students and institutional initiatives.
Community Engagement remains an important pillar in achieving the DUT’s mission, with various initiatives aimed at improving education, career development, and social empowerment. The university is expanding outreach to underserved schools, strengthening faculty collaborations, and integrating technology into community programmes. Additionally, there is a growing emphasis on environmental sustainability through climate change awareness and green technology education.
Despite progress, challenges such as resource constraints, funding limitations, and administrative bottlenecks, access to advanced research infrastructure persists but DUT remains committed to driving impactful change. By addressing these obstacles and leveraging emerging opportunities, the university continues to empower students, advance research, and contribute to societal development Also, strategic opportunities exist for increased external funding and global research linkages. This report underscores DUT’s ongoing dedication to innovation, entrepreneurship, and community transformation, reinforcing its role as a leader in higher education and sustainable development.
