 BRICS SUMMER SCHOOL MAGUBANE’S BOOK EXPLORES LOVEIN THE ERA OF
AIMS TO DEVELOP A COHORT OF BRICS YOUTH
 The Faculty of Management Sciences and the Durban University of Technology hosted the Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) Summer School in Durban. The Summer School South Africa 2022 took place at the Mansfield Hall on the Ritson Campus at DUT.
This is one of the deliverables of the BRICS Institute grant from the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS) received by Prof Fulufhelo Netswera supported by Dr Ndivhuho Tshikovhi.The Summer School brings together young leaders from BRICS and the Global countries to conduct a series of workshops and lectures that focuses on economic, political, cultural and development in BRICS.
The event had a sensational array of local and international delegates and keynote speakers consisting of the KwaZulu-Natal Premier, Ms Nomusa Dube-Ncube; Minister for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Ms Nkoana-Mashabane, Professor Anil Sooklal- Ambassador-at-Large for BRICS and Asia; Luanda Mpungose- Board Chair of the South Africa BRICS Youth Association (SABYA); Raymond Matlala: Executive Chair of SABYA; Karabo Mohale-Deputy Executive Chair of NYDA; Prof Sarah Mosoetsa: CEO of the National Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (NIHSS), Ms J Modise, Deputy Director Marketing and Communication (SABYA), Dr David Mohale, Director of Special Projects in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and Principal at the Durban University of Technology, Prof Fulufhelo Netswera, Executive Dean: Faculty of Management Sciences, Project Lead: BRICS Research Project 2022, DUT, Sphiwe Dlamini: Director of Marketing and Communication, SABYA, Auriel Niemack: Executive Manager BRICS & Research –NIHSS, Mr Frank Lin WU: Director of Confucius Institute at Durban University of Technology, Nadim Aziz: CEO-Rajen Reddy Foundation; Honourable Alvin Botes, Deputy Minister-DIRCO, Mr R Van Der Merwe,

Director Stakeholder Relations (SABYA), Liubov Saveleva: CEO and Chairperson- International Friendship Clubs’ Association, Prof Bruno De Conti, University of Campinas Brazil, Prof Xiaolong Zou, Jilin University China, Diana Kovela: Programme Manager Russia-BRICS Project Office, BRICS Scholars and Students from across all the BRICS nations and the World; and BRICS Youth in particular.
Some of the objectives of this Summer school were to provide BRICS youth with an understanding of BRICS and its role in a changing global landscape; strengthen youth cooperation between BRICS youth on various issues affecting youth and identify common interests for further collaborations; and, to develop a cohort of young BRICS policy makers and influencers who are key players in the new era of development.
The exciting programme showcased some of the subjects such as an introduction to BRICS, the role of the New Development Bank in the new era of development, the Reform of Multilateral Institutions, alternative financial systems in the new era of development, Climate Action and the Industrial Revolution in the BRICS countries.
