It was hard to believe for both com
petitors and trainers that the Games
were coming to an end. It had all hap
pened so quickly; and yet it seemed as
if — on that first day when the Games
opened — the year would drag on
endlessly. There were some peaks
when the sounds of success rang in
their ears. The low points were there
too, when the strain of competition
seemed hardly worth the effort. Still,
very few complained, for upon evalua
tion, it was clear — it was very much
worth it.
