P. 39

In any Olympic competition natural leaders stand out in the crowd. The Seniors performed an outstanding role in this year’s games. Highlighted by the National Merit Corpora tion’s selection of Cathal O’Connor, Jerry Mingolelli and John Ryan as semi-finalists, the class raced for the gold on all fronts. Lorenzo Jackson and Paul O’Leary
were featured prominently in journalistic coverage of the Brothers football season, while Greg Goodwin and Chris Shepardson captured the Soccer and Cross Country headlines, respectively. Strength on the Basketball court was found in returning lettermen, Tom Sommers, Derek McCarthy and Chris Fletcher. Not to be outdone by their fellow athletes, seniors Jason Klein, Kevin Burdick and
Pete Taylor insured that the hockey competition during the games would remain at a peak throughout the season. While attention was focused on the Seniors’ golden
aspirations, local and national affairs were not far from their consciousness. The surprise attack on Grenada and the brutal bombing in Beirut reminded most class mem bers that their future could be clouded by the military requirements of their country.
Still on balance, the cry “Go for the Gold’’ best de scribed the culmination of long hours of training and years of preparation for the academic and athletic honors they received in this, their final participation in the CBA games.
