 In February 2010, during winter break, a group of 9 CBA students, together with
Mrs. Saba, travelled to Europe where they toured France, the Pyrenees and Spain.
The trip began with a 3 night stay in Paris. While there, students explored the
Louvre, and visited the Champs Elysees, the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame Cathedral,
Montmatr, and Versailles. After touring the palace in Versailles, students
participated in a role play where they explored the issues leading to the French
Revolutionary War. From Paris, the group travelled to the seaside resort of
Biarritz in the French Pyrenees for the night before travelling to Burgos in the
Spanish Pyrneees where they also spent one evening. The next day, before
arriving in Madrid, the students toured the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, El
Alcazar in Segovia, Phillip II's palace (El Escorial) and the Valley of the Fallen (a
memorial honoring those who died in the Spanish Civil War). The four days in
Madrid were spent doing a city tour where students visiting the Plaza de Espana,
the Plaza Colon, the Prado museum, the Reina Sofia Museum, the Royal Palace,
and the nearby city of Toledo to visity the Gothic Cathedral, the Synagogue of
Santa Maria la Blanca, and the monastery of San Juan de los Reyes. In Madrid,
students also participated in cooking class at a culinary school where, under the
guidance of master teachers and chefs, they prepared tortilla espanola and paella
valenciana, among other delicacies. In addition to being able to practice speaking
Spanish and experiencing culture first-hand, the trip created life-long memories
one city at a time!
