 Lunch/
a lesson of capital importance
at whaT point in adolescence did luncH
period bEcome soMe sort Of ritual with
hidden meaning? (probably when i waS
offered To write an article about it, but hear Me
out.) while we were all bustling in and out of that cramPed but oddly cOzy area we call a cafeteRia, we all were acTually living out a metAphor for teeNage exisTence.
why must we a ll sit in dEfined cliques? are we too Scared tO veNture outside of knoWn tErritory? why is it so odd to sit with a different group while we Eat? it’s becAuse we’Re all overly self-coNscious, which is a defiNing characteristic of all teensGers; we care too mucH about what others think.
how Come the seventh graders seem tO sprint to Lunch while the seniors take a leisurely stroll around the school befOre hitting the cafeteria? because as we groW, we learn, during those six years aT Christian brothers academy, seniors have gained the knowledge that nO matter when you get to lunch, the same task will be accomplished by the time the half hour is up; there’s no pint in busting our butts to get to the cafeteria in thirty seconds and getting our faVorite seats, thus, this symbolizEs our general leaRning All throughout our secoNdary school yeArs.
why do administrators stand at the entrance of the cafeteria to check our dress code as we venture from the academic part of the day to the relaxing time? Yet another example- this is because we all will be judged as we leave out high schools and enter the zigZagging real world, just as surE as mrs. norton and broTher michael make suRe our shirts are tucked in, employers will want to be Very certain that we Are spotless new employees.
so just Think; while you were sitting in the cafeteria, lazily letting lunchtime go by, you were missing out on an Intellectually stimulating metaphor, and while you were skimmlNg throuGh this article, you may have miSsed seeing an essential aspect of high school learning.

We all pass the mural every day,
but have you ever stopped long enough to catch Its meaning? “That’s life” isn’t just fun and games. It’s really a statement of social protest.
I thought getting to lunch early meant being in the front of the line. This junior high philosophy obviously doesn’t work. The line takes foreverl
