How Teachers Spent Their Vacations
When school was out, students were not the only ones to leave the school. Teachers were probably the first to leave the school for rest and relaxation.
First of all, one might have asked what the Brothers themselves did. Brother Casimir said he liked swimming, water sports, and boating. Brother Gabriel, on the other hand, preferred to go away on a directed retreat or cook. Broth er James Connors made plans to visit friends and family in Albany, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey. He also sought out unique architecture and historical sights for the aesthetic value, and went sightseeing and kept up to date on local history.
The rest of the faculty were just as busy . . . Well, they had as much fun. Mr. Schnipp
said, “It all depends.” On short vacations he liked to relax. After that, the rest is censored. Dr. Davis read various science journals exten sively and spent time with his family. He also liked to ride a bicycle. D r . U v a worked during the summer and Mrs. Fiutak went sailing in the Atlantic Ocean. M r. Owens skied in the winter and loved to look at tourist attractions. Mrs.Nortonsimplywentcamping.Mr.Sac cotooklongwalks, whileMr.McClurestayed home and worked on his house in between lots of relaxation and playing lots of golf. Sister Suzanne played the piano and traveled to Eu rope and Dr. Hamati visited friends.
However, M r. Conroy probably summed up what the teachers like to do best on vacation . . . The 3 R’s: Recreate, Relax, and Rest.
Teaching can be hard. M r. M oretti tries to get his point
across during English class while worrying that the students
may not understand him.
