Anticipation
Eighth Grade is the end of junior high, and the beginning of high school. For some,
this is quite a big leap, for others a small leap. Nevertheless, its a leap into next stage
of life. After high school, its college, then into the work world, etc. Although the
work world seems a long way off, it’s not. Some day you’ll wonder what happened.
It seemed just like yesterday I was in Eighth Grade ...
For the time being, let us focus on high school. Many expectations are envisioned
for the next four years. Hard work, and integrity are emphasized. Yet, when one
really comes right down to it, it is just another stage of life to go through. Nevertheless,
through this stage we must strive at our personal best.
One can see really two sides to high school. However, when both sides are balanced
equally, then high school becomes successful, and fulfilling. One side is the academic
side. On this side, as mentioned before, hard work and integrity are emphasized. The
other side is the social side. This is the viewpoint in which friends, and fun are
emphasized. Thus, both are good. It is when one is stressed more than the other,
that it is detrimental.
One must point out that most people don’t really think about creating a balance
in high school. One just thinks about doing what he or she can do academically,
and trying meanwhile to have as much fun as possible. Thete is nothing wrong with
this, no one said there was. But, I hear all-too-often that high school wasn’t as good
as it should have been. So, Eighth Graders do as you may in high school, but don’t
neglect the other side. You may regret doing so later on.
