Additional Means
of Communication
Hola! Bonjour! Ave! What do each
of these words mean? They mean
"Hello!” in Spanish, French, and Latin.
These languages are very important to
society in their own way. They are also
very useful to the people in our coun
try, because there are many who speak
or use these languges.
Spanish is the most common of the
three. There is an abundant amount of
Spanish speaking people in the United
States. The Spanish language is second
only to English. There are various
words in Spanish that sound like Eng
lish and have the same meaning.
French is not as common as Spanish,
but it is an important language. French
is most common in Canada, which was
formerly a French colony, but French
is also used in the United States. It is
taught in most high schools, and it is
used in teaching ballet.
Latin is not a commonly spoken
language, although it did play a very
important role in helping to form our
English language. Most of our English
words have a Latin root. Latin was also
formerly used in the Catholic Church,
but most priests do not say the Mass
in Latin anymore.
Each of these languages shows a
specific importance and plays a very
important role in our country.
