 Day of Diversity
Early this year, the CBA community gathered for a day of learning. Not about grammar or algorithms, but about the world, each other, and ourselves. Led by a group of students belonging to the organization Kids Can Free The Children, we heard speakers discuss their own experiences with prejudice, war, and sorrow. Then each homeroom met to undergo exercises designed to foster self-awareness and a sense of community. We all came a way from the day with a stronger awareness of the troubles in the world around us,
most notably through the young woman who came from the former Yugoslavia who spoke of her escape from Sarajevo and the scars she still carries with her. 2002 CBA graduate Lee Navarro assisted in putting this day together, along with 8th grader Maura Welch, the local voice of youth in the organization.
CBA students were given plenty of opportunity to ask questions.
