Students as salt of the earth: Peer Ministry

Students are not limited to sharing their gifts and talents through athletics, academics, or the arts at CBA. They are now able to share with the community through a new Peer Ministry program.
Last spring. Campus Minister Chris Mominey approached the sophomore class and spoke o f the program. “Yourlifemaybe the only Gospel some people ever read,” he told them.
The youthful energy o f the Peer Ministry program is divided into four different offices. Each one promotes a differentaspectofChristian living; theOfficeofSpiritual Life, the Office o f Social Justice, Office ofChristian Formation, and the Office of ArtandEnvironment.
Two ofthe Peer Ministry students, Tom Magnarelli and Kelly Croglio, are the student coordinators who, according to Mominey, “bridge the ideas ofthe ministers with my
philosophy.”
Kelly stressed the change in
Campus Ministry was definitely worth the adjustment.
“Although it is only the first year, we have been able to do so much,” she said.
Momineysaidhisroleis, “To provide the resources, making sure the ideas put forth by the ministers are acceptable and appropriate. My ideal program at CBA would be one that would breathe new life into the elements ofthe Christian community here at school that was previously more traditional when it was
headed by adults... Now, all ofthe adults are merely
supervisors.”
Mominey said that Peer Ministry goes hand in hand with Bishop James Moynihan’srecentpastoral letter. Equipping the Saints
for the Work ofMinistry.
“Peer Ministry is a solution to Bishop Moynihan’s question on how the church can adjust to the decreasing amount ofpriests and sisters in the diocese...CBA is preparing these peer ministers to take an active role in the Church,” he said.
