The Kaleidoscope’s Range
We open our eyes to a new year with a kaleidoscope’s range of expectations. Each turn of the mind seems to instill in each person an entirely improved point of view. I want to be a star on the football team. I would like to get a better grade in Math class. I want to be class president. I will be a better person. These expectations give us a foundation upon which we build our goals for the future.
From this vantage point we are able to see the vibrancy of our many opportunities. We are, rather than with a telescope, examining the future (and more accurately creating the future) with a kaleidoscope through which we see a world modified across realms of foreign and delightful material. This point is our common bond as people. This point cannot be altered.
The road ahead can be purveyed by each of us as something drastically different. However, it begins in the same place. Our common inauguration as adults is the matrix of a great generation of people, and some day I am sure that all of us, from whatever future we have chosen, will look back with a tone of nostalgia only to see that simple student prepared to manipulate a grand future ahead with only a rudimentary, cylindrical device.
