Outdoor Track
The outdoor track team o f1987 had a tough year. It recorded a disappointing 3-4 showing in league competition. The team’s three wins came at the expense of Fowler, Fulton, and J.D. The Brothers took two teams, Nottingham and Cort land, to the wire, but lost to both o f them by a very thin margin.
The Brothers were led in the distance events by seniors Marc Mirucki and Gene Kelly. In the sprint events, Dave Buzzelli and David Stirpe, both seniors, led the team. First year coach Mike Murphy breathed a new fire into the team, one which still lingers today. Hopefully, the legacy left by Coach Murphy and the departed seniors will continue, and help C.B.A. to rebuild its dynasty in track and field.
The indoor track team, though small in number, was a force to be reckoned with in Class B. Lacking the numbers to compete in every event, the team ran within its limits, participating only in those events it was strong in. These in cluded the 4800, 4400, 4200, and the Sprint and Distance M edley relays, as well as the open 300, 400, 600, 800, and 1600 meter races. Against its Class B
foes, the team faired surprisingly well in these events.
The Brothers were led in the middle distance events by Senior David Spina, whose times were consistently among
the best in the section. In the long dis tance events, seniors Pat O ’Connor and Jason Vianese, along with sophomore Tim Gaughan, always finished in the front of the pack. Seniors Sean McCar thy, Dave Ranieri, and Fred Koslowski covered the sprint events for the Broth ers. The team looks strongfor thefu ture asfreshmen M att Marnett and Jus tin Vianese both saw action in varsity races. First year coach Jasper Royal saw the team progress and was hopeful that with more athletes, the team could become a legitimate contender for the Section III title in years to come.
