An article written by Oxford Institute explains, “Students are so overwhelmed by
all the feedback that they either get demotivated and lose confidence.” It means that some
students think that feedback on academic writing is not important because knowledge is
in constant evolution, so is not important to remember old things. Personally, I think that
feedback is important because we need to remind necessary things like grammar,
punctuation, and spelling on academic writing.
At first, feedback on academic writing should be necessary because it is an
effective method to remind important points of grammar structure. It helps people to write
an adequate essay without committing simple grammar mistakes. Moreover, it is well
known that the English language evolves, but it does not mean that old knowledge about
it is useless. Ancient knowledge is the basis for future knowledge.
Secondly, another important thing to feedback on academic writing is the
punctuation. According to Huisman, B. “Academic writing is affected by fatal errors in
punctuation.” It means that students tend to write essays without sense and it is because
they have forgotten important punctuation rules.
Thirdly, some investigations have demonstrated another important error in
academic writing is the spelling. Many students have difficulties on spelling by long
periods without practice it. There are different routines which help to solve this failure.
For example, to make students read paragraphs and essays to recognize the spelling of
words.
In sum, feedback on academic writing should be mandatory for students at college
because it has benefits not only for the student but also for professors. “…I consider
academic writing is the basis for students’ knowledge.”
