Message from the Executive Dean Dear Colleagues One cannot believe that we are approaching the end of yet another productive year in the College. During this year, the College has built on from successes achieved in 2018, and the tenacity of the staff at CSET was a marvel to behold. We have a number of dedicated staff members in this College who are prepared to go beyond the call of duty for the sake of the Unisa brand and the reputation of our College. The leadership of this College acknowledges and applauds such sel ess dedication of colleagues in ensuring that CSET delivers on its mandate. We have hit the right note for legitimate and noble reasons in 2019, as evidenced by the number of times the College has been featured on Intcom, in various social media as well as formal news media. We need to promote the culture of exposing positive narratives and good news stories based on the activities of our staff and students, especially in the communities where we are changing people’s lives. To this end, we have done exceptionally well. Well done, CSETTERS. I will refrain from mentioning the events, functions, conferences, Teaching and Learning Festival, individual achievements, accolades of a collective, let alone the names of our shining stars, because we have put together a HUGE BUMPER summative link that will make for good reading as you re ect and reminisce about the excellent year that 2019 was. We have had several of our colleagues being promoted to higher ranks during the 2019 ad hominem promotions call. We once again congratulate colleagues for reaching yet another important milestone in their academic career. We look forward to their continued contribution to the excellence and stature of CSET. Through your promotion, more students will be supervised at postgraduate level; more scholarly publications will be produced; students will be exposed to excellent and innovative teaching and learning experiences, particularly with the Teaching and Learning Framework document that will be our guide. In addition, we shall all continue to change lives of humanity by integrating our research and our learning programmes into our community engagement activities. Please take a seat and a enjoy a cup of coffee or tea or a glass of water or juice, but nothing stronger (with all your faculties unperturbed), as you read the summative narrative of 2019 captured throughout the year! We wish you all the best for 2020! Regards Prof Bhekie Mamba Executive Dean College of Science, Engineering and Technology 1
