This pocket reference was compiled to guide and enhance the safe and effective ordering and use of radiological studies with and without contrast media for healthcare providers, radiologists, and technicians.
Use this reference to help select the proper study, screening, and premedication for common used studies.

Commonly used order notations:
• wo = without
• w/wo = with and without
• w = with
All orders should be clearly written with the following:

• Speci ed body part to be scanned • With/without contrast (IV, oral)
Review all institutional requirements for Cr monitoring, risk factors for NSF, and surveillance during contrast injections
Written Examples:
Study + Body Part +/- Contrast +/- NPO
• MRI of Brain with and without contrast =
MRI of Brain w/wo contrast
• US right upper quadrant NPO after midnight prior
