Important Considerations
Creatinine lab values will be required prior to an CT scan with IV contrast if the patient is diabetic, has a history of renal disease or cancer, or if the patient is 70 years old or older. Creatinine levels must be taken within 30 days prior to the scan.
Patient Prep
Abdominal and pelvis exams: No food or drink 3 hours prior to exam. Oral contrast to be taken the night before the exam and again 1-1/2 hour before exam.
Brain Exam with IV contrast: No food or drink 3 hours prior to exam. Chest: No food or drink 3 hours prior to exam.
