INTERVIEW BY JANINE VAN NIEKERK
To most of the members all I am is the name at the end of their e-mails. There is, however, more to me than
just an e-mail signature. Yes,
I love cars. They are a thing
of beauty and being involved
with the Porsche Club allows
me to window shop these
beautiful Porsches to my
heart’s content.
I became involved with the
Porsche Club about three
years ago when the company I worked for produced the Porsche Club magazine. Gradually I became more involved with the club. I started off helping with their memberships and event bookings, then assisting with the design and implementation of the backend. I am now
PORSCHE CLUB SOUTH AFRICA - CENTRAL
officially the club’s Admin Officer.
I have a partner, Les and a 21-year-old daughter Lara. During lockdown, the company I worked for closed down suddenly. Instead of sitting around, mop- ing I started my own design company and am loving every second of this new
venture. When I am not working, my hobbies include anything cre- ative. My latest passion (with my daughter who is now a strict vegan) is to veganize family favourite recipes, anything from delicious spaghetti bolognese
to chocolate cake. We are in the process of developing a vegan
cookbook.
As part of my Porsche Club work – I get to work closely with the committee mem- bers and truly respect the time and effort they put aside to make the club what it is.
Keeping the club running and delivering events at a consistently high standard is no easy task!
I have recently started attending Porsche Club events in the hope of getting to know the members better, however, keeping up on breakfast runs is a bit too challenging for my little car. I now know why they call Porsches super cars.
The 2020 COVID-19 pandemic has taught me that nothing in life is guaranteed. Family is important and a crisis will quickly distinguish friend from foe! Being part of an organisation like the Porsche Club makes a difference as it brings people together who not only share their enthusiasm for Porsches, but who also connect on a personal level as a supportive community.
Going forward into 2021 I hope to be more involved in the Porsche Club, interact with the members and get to know them personally, and not just be a name at the end of an e-mail.
